A ceramic fuse offers better thermal and arc protection during a high current episode compared to a glass fuse with the same specifications. Sometimes marked with an S or T before the current rating (for example T3.15A), these delayed action fuses allow for a temporary current surge without going above the fuses current rating.
Because of this, time delay fuses are most commonly used in applications where a large momentary load is expected such as motors at start-up.
